Overview
A wall with no joins in it
White set is traditional solid plastering: a thin, hard gypsum-based finish coat trowelled over a render or masonry backing to produce a dense, seamless, monolithic surface. No sheet joins, no recessed edges, no cornice cracking along a sheet line.
It remains the finish of choice for period homes, high-end new builds and any project where a genuinely flat wall matters — including as a substrate for polished Venetian, where sheet joins would eventually read through.
It is a diminishing skill. Solid plastering is harder, slower and less forgiving than sheeting, and there are fewer tradespeople in Adelaide who can still rule and set a wall properly. It is a core part of what we do.

Traditional White Set Plastering — your questions answered
Plasterboard is a manufactured sheet fixed to framing, with joints taped and filled. White set is a wet plaster trowelled over a solid backing to form one continuous surface. White set is harder, flatter and seamless; plasterboard is faster and cheaper. For period work and for decorative substrates, white set wins.
Yes, and it is a large part of our heritage and renovation work. We match the existing plaster system and thickness so the repair is invisible under paint rather than reading as a flat patch in a wall with subtle life to it.
For a standard bedroom, honestly, no — plasterboard is fine. For a period home, a signature space, or anywhere a polished decorative finish is going on top, it is the difference between a good result and a perfect one.
