Overview
Repair it the way it was built
Adelaide has an extraordinary stock of nineteenth and early twentieth century buildings, and a great deal of the damage done to them in recent decades was done with cement. Sealing a soft, lime-bound, solid masonry wall behind a hard cementitious render traps moisture in the stone and drives salt attack into the fabric.
Heritage work means understanding that. We restore with breathable lime-based systems matched to the original mix, repair and reproduce ornate cornice, ceiling roses, arches and mouldings, and make good rather than replace wherever the original fabric can be saved.
We work with heritage consultants, councils and private owners on both listed and character-overlay properties, and we are comfortable working to a conservation management plan.

- Sacrificial lime render is the correct approach where salt is present; it is designed to be replaced periodically.

- Allow extended programme; lime carbonates slowly and cannot be force-dried.

Solid masonry walls built before cavity construction manage water by letting it evaporate out through the render. Cement is comparatively impermeable, so the moisture goes sideways and upward into the stone instead, carrying salts with it. Lime is softer, breathable and sacrificial — it protects the stone by taking the damage itself.
Yes. We template the surviving profile, cut a running mould or take a cast, and reproduce the missing sections to match. Where a whole run is lost we work from photographs, adjacent rooms or period references.
