Built to move with the building
Acrylic render is a polymer-modified coating applied over a cementitious base, blockwork, AAC panel or cladding board. Unlike sand and cement it is flexible, which lets it accommodate the thermal movement a South Australian façade goes through between a 42-degree afternoon and a two-degree night.
Texture coatings are the finish layer on top: rolled, sponged, sand-float, trowel-on or fine-set, coloured through the material rather than painted on. That means a scratch does not expose a different colour underneath, and the façade holds its tone for far longer than a painted render.

- Nominate texture by sample panel — texture names vary between manufacturers.
- Dark colours on large west-facing elevations increase surface temperature and movement; discuss LRV before selection.
- Maintain a wet edge across an elevation; stop only at natural breaks or joints to avoid banding.
- Do not apply in rain, high wind or when overnight temperatures approach zero.

Cement render is a rigid structural coat that builds thickness and corrects a wall. Acrylic render is a thin, flexible polymer coating that finishes it. Most quality Adelaide façades use both — cement render to build and straighten, acrylic texture to finish and protect.
No. The colour is through the product. You can overpaint it later if you change your mind, but a texture coat is a complete finished system on its own — that is part of why it outperforms painted render.
With a sound base and correct application, fifteen to twenty years before it wants attention, and even then usually a clean and a recoat rather than removal. Coastal and heavily west-facing elevations sit at the shorter end of that range.
